Seller:wzadel(310)100%, Location:Parowan, Utah, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item:262950524641This is completely restored Echophone EC-1A receiver. These radio's were produced during the World War II Era and provided to the troops as gifts purchased by their family members and shipped to the troops with full cooperation of the U.S. Government at the time. This effort was carried out as a moral builder for the troops so they could listen to shows, music and war news from back home any where in the world. I remember those day's very vividly - my father was fighting in the Pacific Theater at the time. 'We listened to a lot of radio back then.' Actually, the EC-1 was the first version of the EC-1 series of radios to participate in this 'moral building' effort. The EC-1A and the EC-1B came along later but were all instrumental during that time for the moral building of both the troops abroad and us folks at home. The attached photo's speak for themselves, A lot of time and work went into restoring this little gem. My asking price won't even begin to compensate me for all the work, cost and effort that has gone into this project. I have one more that I will restore and probably keep. First of all, when I first received it, it was dirty and had some rust on it mostly on the outer cabinet. I stripped off all the old paint and repainted it with as close to the original 'hammered tone' finish as I could find. I polished the chassis the best I could, cleaned and lubricated all the controls, tested all the tubes and replaced the bad ones and restrung the tuning dial strings with fresh dial string material. New control 'decals' were installed around all the controls. I replaced all the electrolytic and paper/wax capacitors as seen in the photo's. I also replaced several resistors that needed replacing (the ones that were out of tolerance) but not all of them need to be replaced. The silver hole plugs on the left side of the cover are there because the original owner had apparently made some modifications to this radio at one time. My best guess is that one of the holes was for a headphone jack and the other could have possibly been for a record player jack which would allow for playing the old 33 1/3 and 45 RPM records through the radio which was popular back in the day. I restored the wiring to it's original state and plugged up holes. Most importantly, the AC section of this EC-1A has been rewired to eliminate that awful deadly 'hot chassis affect' so common in these early AC/DC radios of that era. A brand new AC line cord with a new polarized plug has been installed. I also included a fuse to protect the circuitry in the event of an overload situation. I installed new rubber feet on the bottom chassis cover. The rear protective cover is original. Finally, I realigned the receiver using my trusty Heathkit RF-1 frequency generator, my HP 5314A frequency counter and my Tektronics 2235A Oscilloscope per the instructions outlined in the Echophone EC-1A manual (included). The receiver performs beautifully! It is suggest that a long outdoor antenna be used with this vintage radio. I use 80 feet of stranded 16 gauge copper wire with a 9:1 balun (not included) mounted about 20 feet above the ground. It pulls in stations from all around the world ( during cooperative ionospheric conditions of course). I live in high country surrounded by 10,000 foot mountains and it performs very well with good ionospheric conditions. Your geographic location should provide either similar of better reception performance. I hope you find this offering of interest and please feel free to ask any questions. NOTE: No guarantees or warranties implied. No returns due the vintage condition of this item. Thank you for looking!
